Bosch introduced that connected smart home of the future is already possible now. Innovative solutions and services for smart homes and smart buildings aim to use the latest technologies to make our lives easier, more comfortable and more energy-efficient.
Cloud-based Bosch solution to support building services and building management
The Connected Building Platform is Bosch's cloud-based system for smart homes. By analysing the data it collects from building services and sensors, it works out such things as air quality and the number of occupants of individual rooms. The platform serves as a basis for more efficient building management through support for predictive maintenance and increased productivity, and it also provides information on the utilisation of rooms and the occupancy of workstations. In offices laid out with flexible workstations, it will help workers find the nearest free position more quickly and streamline cleaning and some maintenance jobs. Sensing human presence and tracing the location of equipment could also help to optimise the process of work and life in ever-smarter buildings.
Bosch sensor uses ten times less energy
The new, ultra-energy-saving MEMS sensor, the BMA400, will be the ideal choice for wearables and internet-of-things (IoT) applications. Small but effective, this sensor uses nearly ten times less electricity than equivalents in current use, greatly extending battery life in all kinds of devices. The new acceleration sensor will be crucial for smart-home applications like security systems (alarms, cameras, motion sensors and the like). The integrated and energy-saving pedometer makes it possible to add activity-detection functions to electronic wearables (such as watches) without major development costs.
Interactive user interface to make contact with our smart devices
With the constantly-increasing diversity of electronic devices of all sizes, like wearables and smart home support devices, making human interaction with these technologies more effective is an area that is attracting considerable development effort. The Bosch microscanner is a crucial contribution to progress in this field. It creates a flexible and intuitive virtual user interface and projects it in high resolution on to any surface. The tiny sensor enables customisable, precise user interfaces to be created in the IoT network for such things as household appliances, tablets and robots. That will make devices work in a user-friendly way, harmoniously integrated into our daily lives.
Prize-winning smart cameras for safer homes
Already available as standalone smart solutions, the 360-degree indoor camera and the Eyes outdoor camera (both winners of the 2017 RED DOT AWARD), starting in 2018, will also be optionally integrated into Bosch Smart Home system solutions. With built-in motion sensor, intercom function, and smartphone connection facility, the cameras will also add functionality to our home alarm systems, providing images to help assess the situation when the alarm is tripped.
Robot vacuum cleaner with artificial intelligence will map out our homes
Over the last year, Bosch has added connected technologies to every category of its product portfolio in its network kitchen solutions. There is more to its smart home equipment than this, however. This year, Bosch will be launching the Roxxter, the first networked robot vacuum cleaner to have artificial intelligence. It will bring us one step nearer to the fully smart home.
The Roxxter is a high-performance, efficient home helper. It uses specially-developed sensors to scan its surroundings and make an interactive map. Through the RoomSelect function, we can give it special tasks and specify no-go areas so that it does not accidentally stray into places it should keep out of. Connected with the Amazon Alexa, the Roxxter can even be controlled by voice. For example, "Alexa, get the Home Connect robot to vacuum the living room". Control with the Amazon Alexa has been an option for Bosch smart home cameras since autumn last year (the first camera solution of this kind), and in spring, the full Bosch Smart Home System will have voice-control capability.
