The construction of a two-story pedestrian bridge in the 10th district of Budapest has begun by Bosch Hungary, a leading supplier of innovative technology and services. The new bridge, which will soon span over Sibrik Miklós út, will be an engineering curiosity in itself, as it will offer two levels of transport above each other for the nearly 4,000 Bosch associates working at the company's Budapest headquarters. The lower level will be enclosed, but with an airy glazed design, while the upper level will offer a truly open, green-roofed route. The eco-friendly design will also contribute to improving the microclimate of the surrounding area.
Sustainable solutions for innovation
The new bridge is expected to be inaugurated later this year, in 2023, and will connect the two buildings of the Bosch Budapest Innovation Campus, where experts work on the automotive developments of the future.
“Hungary is the fourth largest Bosch R&D center in the world after Germany, India and China. The two-story bridge now under construction will not only make the future-oriented work here even more efficient, but with its unique technology and green roof design it will also symbolize the company's leading role in innovation and ecosystem building and its commitment to sustainable solutions,” said Dr. István Szászi, representative of the Bosch Group in Hungary and in the Adria region, commenting on the investment.
Green roof over the street
The specially designed new bridge will connect the engineering laboratory buildings and communal green spaces of the two Bosch complexes on Gyömrői út, making it easier and faster for associates to move around and transport project equipment.
The new bridge, which will span 5.5 meters above Sibrik Miklós út, will be more than 140 meters long and 11.5 meters high, supported by a total of 4 pillars. In total 200 tons of steel and 107 tons of glass will be used to construct the two-story bridge, which will have a green roof on its upper deck.
