Miskolc – Bosch opened a new production hall equipped with state-of-the-art technologies in Miskolc. Thanks to the investment, the company's power tool plant continues to produce in a larger area than before, increasing the production capacity and efficiency of the site. Some of the activities already carried out at the site have been transferred to the new production hall, and electric power tools and eBike batteries are manufactured with more advanced technology than before. “This production hall is an excellent example of how Bosch builds the industrial centers of the future: state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, expertise and commitment to quality are both important values in Miskolc, which makes this site strategically important for the company group at global level” - emphasized László Fükő, general manager of Robert Bosch Power Tool Elektromos Szerszámgyártó Kft. The Hungarian state provides 3.4 billion forints as non-refundable contribution to the investment of 13.9 billion forints.
Cordless power tools for DIY and gardening fans (such as drills, saws, multi-tools, chainsaws and hedge trimmers) as well as their batteries are produced in the 20,000-square-meter hall, which has just been inaugurated. Bosch eBike batteries are also produced there.
Industrial technology of the future in Miskolc
The new hall of Bosch's power tools plant in Miskolc already uses the technology of the future. Production is controlled by Bosch's proprietary Industry 4.0 software solution, which makes decisions without human intervention based on real-time data – ordering raw materials or changing the order of production. Automated vehicles supply raw materials to the production lines and the LED lighting equipped with luminosity sensors in the hall is also digitally controlled.
A strong emphasis was placed on a professional and inspiring working environment. Rest areas and kitchenettes were established in the production areas of the new building, and inspiring community spaces were created in the offices. In addition, the factory was extended with labs, a restaurant and a parking lot accommodating 100 cars.
European competence center in Miskolc
Miskolc is the Bosch Group's largest power tools plant in the world, at the same time it is also Bosch's European battery manufacturing competence center. Across the continent, batteries for power tools are only produced in Miskolc. In addition, the expertise and testing and approval competences necessary for high-volume production and special production technology are only available here. The site mainly manufactures products for the European market, but some product segments are also sold globally.
Not only smart, but green too
Bosch strongly focuses on climate protection measures, and more than 400 of its locations are carbon neutral since the first quarter of 2020 worldwide – this also includes the Hungarian locations including Miskolc. The company supports energy-efficient solutions, increases the share of renewable energy in its supply and buys more green energy, thereby offsetting the inevitable carbon dioxide emissions. The heating, cooling and lighting systems were installed in the Miskolc production hall accordingly. For the latter, LED technology is used exclusively, the building is heated by a condensing gas boiler that can be controlled on the basis of heat demand, thus reducing the amount of CO2 emitted. Water consumption is significantly reduced by the built-in hybrid cooling towers. A solar power plant is planned on the top of the hall: with the projected investment in 2021, CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 250 tonnes.
