Hatvan – Having held its opening ceremony in April, the Community College has now launched its first year of teaching. The ceremony to start the academic year on 2 September was attended by Dr Balázs Heidrich, Rector of the Budapest Business School, Dr László Jakab, Dean of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Richárd Horváth, Mayor of Hatvan, and from Bosch Group, Javier González Pareja, its Representative in Hungary, and Volker Schilling, Commercial Plant Manager of Robert Bosch Elektronika Kft. in Hatvan.
First college-level community training center in Hungary
The new center in Hatvan has started up with an undergraduate course in international business, in collaboration with Budapest Business School (BGE), and a university-level course in electrical engineering in collaboration with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). Hatvan Community College Training Center, in the capital of Heves County, is the first community education establishment to open in Hungary.
The college will start up with total of 36 students, 34 of them are the associates of the Bosch plant in Hatvan. Javier González Pareja said that the center’s courses fill a gap and provide high standard of teaching for the company’s staff without them having to leave the town. “Both they and Bosch will profit from these courses: the company will be able to hold on to its talented workers, and the Community College Training Center will contribute to overcoming the scarcity of engineers.”
Learning and progressing
The university-level international business course being launched in association with BGE will last four semesters, and the undergraduate electrical engineering course backed by BME will last eight. The applicants for the latter were mainly service technicians, and for the former, stores staff and operators in production and logistics. Volker Schilling said, “We are providing a career opportunity by supporting associates’ university studies.” As for promotion opportunities, he added, “the course will set the service technicians on the road to engineering positions. The BGE logistics students can look to a further career path in customer relations or shopfloor management.”
Bosch support at every level
At the opening of the training center in April, Bosch made a contribution to the technical resources for teaching in the form of 23 laptops for a Bosch computer classroom. The Hatvan plant also held a several-month secondary-level preparatory course in mathematics and physics to prepare employees applying for the electrical engineering course. They took the national matura examinations in these subjects in May and June, and 80 percent of them came out with top grades. They also accomplished the professional aptitude examination set by BME and Robert Bosch Elektronika Kft. of Hatvan.
